My latest tent is ultralight, no poles

Oh and BTW that's it attached to my converted Ridgeback Adventure hybrid

Thanks roubaixtuesday a good suggestion [second hand]...but not having a car makes this next to impossible. I live in Brora.....

Most Ebay sellers and the like will courier, though a test ride might be challenging!

If you do go cycle camping on your current bike my two three suggestions would be whatever the smallest chainring you can get on there, largest cassette, and the strongest rear wheel you can get built by a touring specialist.

Will be brilliant, maybe just a few walks up steep bits worst case.

Anyone think i need stronger extra spoke wheels?

On this point, I learned last year touring on a tandem (200kg+ all up) that the quality of spokes, rim and build is more important than number of spokes.

We did 5,000 miles on 36 spoke wheels, one loose front spoke easily retensioned was the only issue.

I wouldn't, however, trust the wheels (particularly rear wheel) you have unless you're really sure of all of that.

Hi folks :okay: ive some ortlieb panniers [chilli red] in the post and now i need a rack. The topeak super tourist seems popular but the mounting rails are lower and wondered if the pannier on the deraileur side could interfere with changing gear or does the pannier clear it? The rack i have is ok but like the idea of the slide fit top bag.

The 2 things wrong with that rack are:
- adjustable height legs. That is a convenience for the factory and the shop but an extra complication for you.

-The flat top propietory rail system. Only takes Topeak top bags and makes it harder to carry and lash oversized loads to the rack top.

Tubus racks are just about perfect except for the price.

Thanks MichaelW2 :okay: i thought adjustable legs would ensure it would fit, i dont fancy having to return anything. I'll have a look at Tubus :okay:

Topeak racks/bag system are great, I'v got 3 racks and 4 different bags. Stick anything valuable and tools, lock etc in the slide off bag then take it with you if shopping or taking refreshments.
One thing though the 'Super Tourist' may not be the right rack, take a look at the 'Explorer', I've got both and the rack on the Ridgeback Hybrid in the photo is an 'Explorer', copes fine with my big Carradice 'Super C' panniers

Currently doing similar to yourself Chief with a gravel bike. Currently gone the lightweight option using what I've got plus fork and barbags. Definitely do a local trip out first. You don't need speed you need decent gears for hauling yourself up the the hills. Youtube is full of advice and also look at dirtdash on YT. They do some good rides. Good luck.
