Camping - Your hint's and tips.

When camping, just double check where you pitch... this was today at Shell Island. Must be the only pitch that's in a 'hollow'.

Oh, for the non electric family camping of my youth. Camping is meant to be simple, not an exercise in keeping things charged / powered. I only cycle camp now and that is non electric.

Back in the day we used to go camping at Boot Eskdale in the Lakes where the local pub had a notorious Austrian land lady. Closing time was either when they ran out of beer or you ran out of money. After one such session my friend Dixie felt nauseous and stuck his head out of the tent to vomit. However he passed out while doing so only to wake in the morning with his beard frozen to ground by said vomit.
The thawing out process probably resulted in PTSD.

I've got a few that I'd recommend

Gibraltar Farm (Lancashire) - Lovely site, fantastic facilities. Its close by to a train station and the lovely villages of Silverdale and Arnside are close by.
...
Any tips? Don't forget the pillows! I hate sleeping dead flat and must have pillows.

I know this is a few years old but just beyond Gibraltar Farm is a bit of National Trust land... we always use to camp there for free and use Gibraltar Farm's facilities.

I always fashion a pillow from the clothes i'm not wearing, carefully folded and layered in the sleeping bag's bag.

Another excellent camp site is Manor Grange Farm at Aysgarth in Yorkshire. One of the few remaining that allows a camp fire (but maybe not after 'the alert'). The actual camping is in St Joseph's Wood. Facilities are rustic with 'festival toilets' (a bucket behind a tarp)... but the Aysgarth falls visitor centre is nearby so I always pitch on that side of the site and walk down through Freeholder's Wood to the proper loos (about 10 minutes).
