I am going on my first camping trip at the end of the month.
Can anyone recomend a good campsite
.
I will be heading down to south Devon, weymouth, Seaton, sidmouth.
My other question is it best to book in advance or turn up on spec

Ukcampsites.co.uk is a good one to look at, we have used the site many times, book in advance to avoid disapointment ^_^ Most are booked already...good luck

I have toured the South West many times in the height of Summer and never had a problem getting on a campsite. Some can be a little on the expensive side for a cycle camper, but they always find space.

An hour or so before I want to stop for the day I start looking for a campsite. Or just ask a local, they often know where the nearest one will be.

trouble with booking is you then have to keep to a set route / timetable. most places would squeeze a cyclist with a tiny tent in wether technically full or not if they are looking undecided tell them your exhausted and cant go much further. Worse comes to worse find a secluded wood or whatever and wild camp for the night .

Trick is to recce the spot in daylight go find a meal or whatever until its just getting dark then slip in un noticed and pitch tent for the night.

Helps if you have a low profile tent.

not sure it goes as far south as you are looking for but http://www.cyclecamp.co.uk/findacampsite.html is also another useful one.

One other to consider is the backpapers UK club which when you join provide you with a listing of farms that permit camping on request. http://www.backpackersclub.co.uk/ they cover cycle touring as well, so it would not be unexpected.

Thanks Banjo, I will keep that in mind.
what tents is in ur picture and where was the picture taken

Tent is a Gelert Solo. It only cost about £30 is waterproof and doesnt sweat too much. Weighs 1.5 kgs easy to put up.I only use it for 1 or 2 nights at a time as it is very small and not high enough to sit up in. The low profile is good when you dont want to be seen, pic is near Hirwaun at the base of the Rhigos mountain. The clump of tall grass was enough to hide me from the road.

Tied on the bike, its the green thing behind the seat post.
