I have to get on and off my bike from/to the left, but I get on my motorbike from the right as I store it close to a wall on it's left side both at home and at work...but in a carpark I get on from the left.
I'm also a lot more confident cranking the bike/motorbike over on lefthand corners than right.
I honestly have no idea. I'm pretty sure I can get on and off from either side, likewise I don't think I have a preference for clipping in or out with either foot. I reckon it just depends on where the bike is and what is most appropriate/convenient at the time. I know that if, for some reason, I can't clip in then I'll try with the other foot rather than do battle.
I guess it's experience; as the same man also said "these things take time"
I'm not bothered which side I get on & off the bike, or with which foot I push off with. It all depends on what side I'm standing at the time. Suppose it helps that although I'm "right handed" when writing I can use my left hand for most other things, very handy for using saw and painting and stuff when one hand/arm gets tired.
