Kneecap? Or quad tendon. Rest, ice. Stretches
My uneducated guess is the kneecap

Physio and NHS, don't make me laugh. I've never had anything worth while from the NHS. They are very restricted about what they can do !

After I broke my spine, the physio just gave me a couple of exercise sheets. When I had a follow up and explained my back wasn't improving they said I was doing too much (still off on sick leave). I just went private at this point as my muscles had swollen badly each side of the break and needed work. Within about 2-3 months I had a great improvement and was able to go back to work.

Its worrying to see so many bad experiences with NHS physios when mine was so outstanding. Having said that, how many folk, hand on heart, can say they followed their physios advice to the letter, 100%? I did exactly as I was told, and then some, and healed well as a result.

Had a knee problem since doing my first 100 km ride of the year a week and a half ago. If I stay off the bike it's fine, but if I try and do more than 5 miles, it starts to hurt again. Some people have recommended it might be better to go and see a physio rather than the GP. I don't know how physios work though...can you see one for free, say an NHS physio easily?

Physios are like homeopathists. No medical science, a half assed set of qualifications and change £50/hr.

Save yourself some time:

Do 20 light calf raises, then wrap a rubber band around your knees and side step across the kitchen twice. Everyday for two weeks, then come see me again.

Oh, and send me £50.

Myofascial release sessions are also available.

local (merton) NHS service is self referral.

Mrs pk developed a shoulder problem. phoned MSK SERVICE. Brief assessment over phone. Booked in for a physical assessment. Simple soft tissue damage diagnosed. Given set of exercises and invited to group physio sessions. Weekly 3 physios, 8-10 patients. exercise technique observed and modified as necessary.

more complex cases would get 121 treatment.

seems pretty good to us.

I've used private physio in the past before the new service was introduced. found it very good - much more hands on manipulation and massage for soft tissue back injury and later sports focus ACL rehab.

Broadly, NHS physio is to get you back to normal living, accelerated recovery and return to sport are best via private sports injury specialist physio.
