Teenager with £3.5K. then to be able to insure it, seriously? If it doesn't have to be new, then: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202011286573520?onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=Used&make=BMW&postcode=ne359lh&radius=1500&sort=relevance&model=5 SERIES&include-delivery-option=on&fuel-type=Petrol&transmission=Manual&advertising-location=at_cars&page=1
There are lots of affordable RWD classics around (Midgets, early Escorts etc). Bit of a minefield at that age of course!Affordable?

Also they are of no use unless you spend a lot of money disabling the nanny aids, you can't simply just cut them out they drop into limp mode.
Which bit?But... it is not really important is it?
Talking of indulgent parents I gave my daughter a drifting and car control lesson for her 18th. It was run by ex police instructors on a course covered in oil so you did not have to have loads of HP to make the car drift.
Well she took everyone by surprise, after a hour the guy got out and let her carry on by herself. The other instructor says he has never done that!
She managed to overheat that car so they gave her another more powerful, she managed the same so they then gave her another one.
Initially she was full of oh i must do it properly without the oil etc but lost interest by the next day then went onto to more exciting stuff , ie skiing, wing walking and free fall parachuting.

And do you really think the average BMW driver would understand thatMany Beemers have a button on the dashboard that disables traction control after a long press.
They don't switch it off fully, they also drop into limp mode when you weld the diff up, that's why the price of pre 2000 BMW has increased as they are getting scarce, so many have rusted away the rest are crushed against the barriers. Many Beemers have a button on the dashboard that disables traction control after a long press.
Have you tried to buy a half-decent RWD Escort lately? There are lots of affordable RWD classics around (Midgets, early Escorts etc). Bit of a minefield at that age of course!
A few years ago there were a few appaling/cheap RWD hatchbacks and saloons being made. With crap rear tyres they could be rather fun. Not sure if anything like that is still made.
(what was the point of this nostalgic diversion??)

EDIT - apparently not fully, see below!
