What sad news. An incredible Guy. I remember first reading of his adventures in the 1980's, his book now well out of print.

Try looking at it another way. He did thousands of miles of riding during a 45-year cycling career. In that time he encountered hundreds of thousands of vehicles of all kinds, not one of which hit him. He was hit by one driver on a very busy main road in a country known for lousy driving.

Car drivers do not suck. One car driver sucks. That doesn't make it any less sad for his family and friends.

First man to cycle the length of the American continent (Chile to Alaska). His ride in Greece (he started in Hull!) had been a training ride! Chapeau to him, and may many nasty things happen to the coward who couldn't even be bothered to stop after hitting him.
