SAAB created massive A pillars that looked slim because they were angled to maximize driver visibility...in 1980s.

Now you have rear windows that appear to be much larger than they actually are, by glazing over metal. Driver visibility is simply not a thing these days.

our little MG TF was written off whilst parked by some big 4x4 with a tinted tiny rear window. said she couldn't see it when reversing. glad it was our car not a cyclist.

You weren't on NPOC (Nissan Primera Owners Club) by chance ? I've got a P12. Loved the Mystic Green P11 GT's

Yes it's a small world. I can't remember what my username was though. There was a guy on there called KevShek or something with a modded turbo charged silver P11GT that I thought was awesome. The P10 eGT and P11 GT should definitely have had the SR20DET engine fitted as found in the S14/S14a 200SX and the Pulsar GTI-R. Yes I loved that colour of GT too. I liked the GT but preferred the eGT as it was a touch more more raw. I've never driven a P12, I've driven all the others P11-144 etc. Great cars.

Funny that the dull as dishwater looking Primera popped up. I bought a used 2.0 one in 1999 as a stop gap after crashing. It really was a drab looker but the best handling/riding saloon I've ever owned, it was f.u.n.

I think I'll have this till l stop driving, wouldn't mind a Merc 190e too, it's looks are growing on me.

I'm impressed, the two James Taylor books look excellent, although my girlfriend would describe them as porn.
Shall I add the centrespread for you later...……………...

 Quad headlights so must be either a GT or a GXL.

This was my first banger. 1972 Cortina 1600 XL

And this was my second. 1975 Cortina 2000E

The 2000E was top of the range after the 1973 facelift, replacing the 2000GXL. Wooden dashboard and door cappings, velour upholstery, leather steering wheel, metallic paint and vinyl roof were all luxury 1970s fittings.

Just imagine how much that "Gene Hunt" 2000E would be worth if you still had it today - or actually, don't!

I had a MkII Escort 1600 Ghia that I bought for £150, tidied up and sold on for £300 after running it for 6 months in the early 90s. I was well pleased to have doubled my money on it. Last time I looked though they were selling for nearly £10k...

Back on topic though, I saw a Peugeot 406 couple this morning.
They were a good looking car, possibly the last good looking Peugeot. Designed by Pininfarina from the also fairly good looking 406 saloon and often compared to Ferraris of the time. In fact, there used to be a guy in Halifax who had a red one that he'd put the Ferrari "Scuderia" badges on both wings.
Worryingly, it was 19 years old - where did that time go?

I was happy enough to get £50 spares or repair for it in 1988, especially as I only got £15 from the scrappy for the 1600. The 2000E was bought for £350 in 1984 and never needed more than £60 to get through an MOT. Best value car I ever had.

We sold a 1978 308 GTS 12 years ago with only 29,000 miles on it £25,000 I can guess what it is worth now, I will let you guys Google it. I paid £750 for my first E type and £1900 for my old 1956 roller. I do not like reading classic car mags nowadays, it upsets me too much.

It is all very well saying I sold this for £X and it is now worth £XXXXX, but unless you have somewhere to store it for twenty years and are prepared to do all the work to keep it from falling apart it just isn't practical for most people. My cousin bought a 1600E when they were achieving classic status (Early eighties I think) and stuck it in his garage till the time came when it would make his fortune. Three years later it was a rusting hulk with everything either leaking or seized. The scrappy gave him beer money for it.

My Dad's 1979 Mk4 Cortina 2.0GL (WVK 90T) estate in Oyster Gold metallic, black vinyl roof, with a state of the art Ford P21 push button radio. He had one of the first ever Lada's that came to the UK before this, a 1974 1200, on the motorway it sounded like an an old noisy washing machine on spin speed, so this was like luxury with cloth seats instead of cheap vinyl that was scorching hot in the summer. Just looks all bonnet and boot to me, little passenger space.
