We got our first car when I was 7. It was a Morris Oxford Estate. Then we had Ford Corsair (way cool ) then Cortina Mk3, Cortina Mk 4, Morris Marina  and finally Datsun Cherry . Then the old man pegged it.

Wrong, Ken pegged all bus fares down to a pound for any trip. I think it may have gone up now but it was still a pound the last time I took the bus.

dad had a mk3 cortina which got the engine taken out for a few reasons,
austin allegro estate in yellow, crashed into by a truck on a roundabout with my mum driving
mk3 escort in red, replaced by face lifted mk3 in blue that was kept for 15 years or so, it even passed an MOT with the boot lid held on by gaffa tape! and was sold in this state!
about half way through the above my mum got a montego estate, it got stolen and recovered and sold followed by another which got scrapped last year and a subaru forrester bought
my dad bought a mazda demio (now the mazda 2) which i crashed a year after passing my test and then it got re-built.

The old man mostly cycled on an ancient three-speed, even when he had a car.

He had a motorbike for some time and didn't have a full driving license so he had a Reliant Regal until he passes his test. Then a ford Anglia, a VW Beetle bought from a neighbour, then a Talbot Alpine.

1930 Aston Martin International:biggrin: (This is in the 60's and 70' brfore anyone comments on my age!)

It wasn't our only car though, I think we had seven or eight - mostly vintage or pre war. Our modern car was a Rover 100 P4 from 1959 ish

We got it new in 1964 (posh), it was really quite radical and american for its age. I remember it was a bit of an event for the whole extended family.

It lasted until about 1970 when it was taken away by the scrap man as it had completely rusted away! So lasted six years. They dont make 'em like that anymore!

We spent most of the journey kneeling on the back seat making faces at the driver in the car behind.

Then dad had a Transit van. When we went out for the day with friends he used to put two lounge chairs in the back behind the van seats for the two mums (two dads sat up front) and we (4x kids) scrambled around on a pile of blankets in the back, emerging from the dark of the van at the seaside. This was all in the days before health and safety!
