I can't remember the last time my bank sent me a new cheque book. Probably between 2005 and 2010.
But what I do know is that I'd not used a single cheque from the previous book they'd sent me, so why on earth did they send me another?

I've had several cheques from large companies recently including DVLA.

I banked one and photo'd the others into my account.
I do have a cheque book and granddaughter needed to send one to somewhere that demanded cheque or (pricey) Postal Orders.. Remember them, too!? 🤔

One of my first jobs back in Victorian times, well the start of the 80's, as an office junior in a high street Bank, was cheque book printer.

Customer would come into enquiries, with the slip you used to get between the 20th and 21st cheque in your 25 cheque, cheque book, and this would be sent up to me in the "machine room".

I would find that customer's Bradma plate (among the thousands in the rack) place into the printing press, and "kerbunk, kerbunk..." 27 times (25 cheques, front cover of cheque book and the renewal slip for next time) and cheque book sent straight back down to the waiting customer, usually in a couple of minutes.

Made me smile when they centralised the system, and cheques were still common, customers would often have to wait days for new cheque book to arrive.

My first job when I left school was working in a factory that produced the high volume cheque processing machines for the clearing banks.

I still get a cheque sent to me 6 times a year. 4 of them are dividend payments on shares I own and the other two are from a camera club I was a member of as way of thanks for still maintaining their web page and social media presences.

When I was working I used have sign things up to a dozen times a day. These days I have to try and remember how to do my signature and it never looks right. So I reckon if signed a cheque now it would bounce.

I got a chequ for something a few months ago

I took it to the local branch - we still have one for my bank here
An assitant came to ask me what I wanted and I said "I got this!"
she offered to show me how to pay it in
but I told her there was no point as by the time I get another one
a) it will be another 5 years and I will have forgotten
b) it will have changed

so I let her pay it in for me - I just entered the PIN on the keypad

I did need to use one a couple of years ago - can;t remember why or who - but I do remember hunting fro my cheque book!

Someone posted me cheque only yesterday, they don’t do ‘on-line’ banking. Now I have the feckin’ faff of paying it in.

Some banks allow you to send a pic' via their app.
Yeah, @SpokeyDokey beat me to it: try paying it in with your banking app.
I remember a few years ago I got a cheque (can't remember who it was from, maybe the tax office?) and I paid it in with my banking app.

I have been tidying out the desk drawer in my home office.
amongst many other things, I have found several bank cards that expired up to 5 years ago - all of which were unsigned and not even validated.

I also found a cheque book - something I have not seen or used in many years. It reminded me how long it is since I have written a cheque

I am guessing that many younger people have never written a cheque or would know what to do with one. I wonder if I still have in my drawer a cheque guarantee card! Remember those?

I had a cheque guarantee card when I was in London 1968-1971

Cheques will be discontinued by all banks by 30 June 2028 here in Oz
Can't remember when I stopped using them.

The last time I wrote a cheque was June 2020 to pay a credit card bill. Somewhere I still have the remains of that cheque book which still has a couple left to go plus the unused replacement that Santander sent out automatically when their system honoured the fifth from last one.

Mum & stepfather still use cheques whenever possible.

I still name my banking spreadsheet to keep track of spending 'Cheque Book Details'.

Gosh, this thread has just made me realise that I haven't used cheques for ages; the last few times were to send birthday pressies to relatives or to pay the window cleaner. Nowadays the window cleaner just puts a card through the door if I'm not in and comes back a few days later to collect the money.

That used to be a real pain years ago. Had to leave cash in an envelope and leave it for the window cleaner to find.

Now though, we have a direct debit arrangement with the window cleaning firm. So no longer have to worry about finding cash.

Funny how 'cheques' are still used for lottery winner presentations.

That's a good point. DVLA send VED refund by cheque, I have one waiting to pay in. I think there is still a Nationwide branch in central Cardiff, must remember tomorrow.
