We tried to convince our younger daughter that her name was at one point a choice between Lauren or Beige.
And that had she been a boy, between Muesli (pronounced Moo-ez-li) and Gusset.

My actual real first name in the real world is absurdly out of keeping with my parents' class, origins and just about everything else. I have hated it since childhood, and use a diminutive, except at work, where it is used. Obv I'm not telling you on here what it is, but it's a real nobber name.

Vegetation is quite popular in the use of names, although I'll grant you not a lot of root vegetables, although I came across a Mr Onions last week and I've met a Mr Radish.
I've met a couple of Lettuces, but when we get to flowers, there are lots, Daisy, Rose, Heather, Hyacinth, etc.
We should not forget our own Royalty, the Plantagenent family is old French for plant Broom as in ( Gold Plant)

Might they have been 'Lettice' rather than 'Lettuce'?[/QUOTE]

Probably  but why let the truth get in the way of a good story ?
Either way both plant and name are pronounced as "Let-Tice"

I sometimes call our 8 year old lad (real name Benjamin) Kevin (no offence to any Kevins out there) normally when he's acting like a teenager and...... for sometimes for reason I'm not too sure of (other than I'm a John Wyndham fan) Triffid.................

Strangely enough he answers to both... I don't know what people think if they over hear me.....

We had a girl called Tuesday at our school, a few years ago.
We have a girl named after the main character in P.. a Pig.
We have a boy in the infants named after the boy in Heros, MycahJ.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Would it be terribly infra dig to point out that it's deducible from your profile page?

Not quite sure how from profile page, but yes, anyone looking at a range of my posts could work out who I am.

[edit] ah, I see. :okay: Have deleted that comment. In any case, that was a different diminutive from the one I actually use :-)
