Only pro riders on closed roads should be allowed to wear helmets. They should be banned otherwise because they encourage people to take risks that they shouldn't and wouldn't otherwise take. New riders could just as well avoid scrapes and bandages with a good thick wooly hat.

I agree, same with seat belts and airbags in cars, and good brakes, windscreen wipers/washers, roll bars crumple zones and the rest - make a car like a death trap and everyone would drive so much more carefully - wouldn't they?

It's a bit different to some of those. Try looking up the few crash test dummy tests of helmets. They're not very good. Helmets are much less proven than seatbelts.

MOD NOTE:
This thread has covered almost all of the ground covered in many other threads like it.

Very little that is new, alternative viewpoints or other constructive input to the whole 'Helmet Debate' has been added. If you wish to review all that has been said - the arguments and counter-arguments, there are lots of threads to keep you busy.

If you have made a point and someone disagrees with you, do try to leave it alone and not spend pages and pages arguing over the same old, same old ground that has been covered in all the previous threads.

Closing time ! :okay:
