Cleat shoe-pedal recommendations

I'm looking to purchase a pair of cleat cycle shoes and compatible pedals. I'm looking to get a good deal but with enough build quality to survive my commute. It's 18 miles on a hybrid bike, cycle track. I'm new to cleat shoes so any help appreciated.

I use Lidl MTB style shoes with SPD cleats , they have survved a good 18 months so far and are one ht ethe most comfy pairs i have rode.

Thanks. Do all cleat shoes fit any make of cleat pedal?

If you look at the Clipless Sticky, a lot will be explained but cleats are either of the 2 bolt mtb type (eg spd, time atac, speedplay frogs, etc) or 3 bolt road type (eg look keos, spd'sl, etc); you do get some shoes that can take both types but most are one or the other.

Edit as linked to above :-)

How much movement (float) do you want for your knees?

I use Speedplay Zeros which give me good movement for my dodgy knees. Highly recommended.

Thanks all. I've just ordered the shimano A530 for £34. Anyone seen any online shimano SPD shoe bargains?
