Clipless pedals and urban cycling?

Dual sided SPD pedals are probably the best option. I have some on one of my bikes, it's my go to if I need something from the shops or am meeting friends. Just wear regular shoes and jeans.

For longer rides I can put bike shoes on and use the clipless system on the reverse.

I have those on all my bikes. Then it doesn't matter what footwear I've got on.

If I'm going for a ride, I'll typically wear touring shoes and cleats, but if I'm going shopping or commuting into Cambridge, then a pair of walking shoes does the job. I personally find urban riding and cleats aren't a great mix, but then again, everyone is different.
