I have recently been passed down a lot of family history information. Amongst the mine of family trees, stacks and stacks of old postcards and letters written as far back as the first war, is my great grandfathers school report from a school in Ryde I.OW.
The school moto was "well begun is half done".
As a teacher myself I usually sneer at the myriad of blah catch phrases that schools feel that they have to generate.
I thought this one was rather good though.
Hard-working families need copper-bottomed assurances that clichés will be ring-fenced and consigned to the dustbin of history. Mixed metaphors, however, are a totally different kettle of ball games.
