I can usually get tyres on and off without tools. Last week I had to fix a friend's puncture while he waited outside (Covid regs!). It was a wire-beaded Vittoria Randonneur and I only had a 35-42mm tube to go into a 32mm tyre. I had to use the VAR lever for the first time.

Some tyre rim combinations are just not meant to be, I'm currently using Bontrager AW2 tyres on my DT Swiss rims, and they slide on very easily, however on a set of alexrims they were a total bugger to get on/off.

I'd just flog the contis on eBay as new/unused and be done with them.

One more for difficult fitting of Conti's - 37mm ContactPlus in my case. I managed one tire, certainly not on the first try, and the second - after a few failed attempts including the last where I pinched the tube - I gave up and went to the LBS to fit it. Never had trouble like that with any others. I do like the tires though
