wheel quality comes up a lot on here
would you say good wheels are the most important factor when buying a bike im not fussed about going quickly but I want to go further do quite a few miles a week for a beginner but max 25 miles at a time
Frame is most important I think, have heard that a lot.
Can upgrade wheels, etc as they wear out.

There's probably nothing to stop you fitting 25s just because it has 23s at the moment

Cannondale synapse is a popular bike, £600 http://www.cyclesuk.com/10587506/products/cannondale-synapse-alloy-claris-2015-road-bike-bbq.aspx or the Peloton: http://www.cyclesuk.com/10587866/products/cube-peloton-pro-2015-road-bike-white-red-and-black.aspx and the Allez http://www.cyclesuk.com/10587062/products/specialized-allez-2015-road-bike-orange.aspx
These are the three most popular bikes in your budget.
Or you could get a carbon frame for £750: http://www.cyclesuk.com/50020/products/specialized-tarmac-2013-road-bike.aspx
On a thousand pound bike the wheels are going to be around £150-200. On your budget they will be in the same relation. I would say the frame is the most important component.
thank you

Well Glen, what do you think. If you can stretch to it and it's your size the Tarmac is a no brainer.
I could stretch to it but it is the wrong size im 5 foot 10 I know sizes vary but the 58s ive sat on instore

HI I can stretch to it but I couldn t stretch on the bike im 5 ft 10 I know sizes vary(my Carrera is 51cm and is proper fit)but the 58s ive tried on other bikes were to big
thanks for the other 3 choices I know its a bit superficial but not keen on orange colour even if its the best bike so it may well be between the cube andcannondale

Nothing to stop the op looking at the Tarmac if the 58cm is the right frame and it's in the right store which it won't be if he's 5'10. I think specilaized sizing is fairly typical, and thus likely a 54cm, possibly. 56cm depending on his dimensions and preferences. A 51cm carrera isn't measured in the same way as a 51cm in many other brands

I expect gone Specialized is red and not orange, just an awful picture

He needs to go ride bikes and decide which is the one

They're not the most important factor, always get the best frame you can for the money. But, at any price point there are compromises, and on the vast majority of bikes around £700-£1000 the wheels are going to be heavy and the groupset often mixed and matched with cheaper chainsets and/or shifters/levers to keep costs down.

I bought the Cube as a winter/training bike, for two reasons: 1) It was great value for the spec, and 2)The solid spec means I haven't wanted, and won't want to spend any money upgrading parts.

The first thing anyone will tell you to upgrade on a bike is the wheels. Buying something with half decent ones in the first place, instead of a pair of 2kg+ boat anchors, will save you a couple of hundred £ on an upgrade if you get into cycling.
