What’s the best thing to trim the stays hacksaw is going to take forever what about what tin smiths snips ? think they are called.

Dont abuse your tools. Tin snips are for thin sheet metal. Those stays are hard, stainless wire in most cases. Cut them with a side-cutter and file the tip flat or, use a Dremel, but still file the burr off.

Indeed. My guess is that he's trying to cut them without the work held in anything.

Not something I do very often. A handful of times in my life, at most. I mean, once fitted they are done. I've only done it once in recent memory, and I used a Dremel with a cutting wheel. In pre-Dremel days I probably used a hacksaw.

With the stays held in a vice, if you have one, or the use of one, a hacksaw, even a junior one will go through them easily.

That's what I found, a junior hacksaw takes no time at all.

Dremel, round off with a file for safety in a crash, and cover with supplied plastic caps.
