Oh, and I do my own small bit by mentioning Cyclechat on Velo Vision as often as I can. And I'm just renewing the links page, and have put it in there...

Being a new user and foreign I might be a bit out of line here, so please forgive me for "butting in". But the forum has a lot of users and high level of activity to the best of my knowledge. So I was just wondering, if I'm the only one that thinks its a good foundation to build a website on? I'm sure the revenue of advertising could bring in some cash to help funding the server. Building a nice website with good cycling related content wouldnt be that hard since you already have most of what it takes.
If you aim to get more users a seo optimized website would be the best and cheapest way to get there imho.

I understand where you are coming from EmGee, but I suspect that one of the things most forum members like about Cycle Chat is that is totally non-commercial. Many of us are refugees from the over-commercialised Bikeradar site and wouldn't want to see Cycle Chat go the same way.

While I personally wouldn't be opposed to taking some low key advertising, it would add a whole level of extra complexity to running the site. I can't speak for Admin, but I assume that he is really just wanting to host an on-line community, rather than have to devote the extra effort that would be required to run what would in effect be a commercial business.

Point taken  - I'll keep my megalomaniac ideas to myself

I'd have no problem paying a fee if server fees make things an issue - I do this with a car forum as its saved me money in the past. Attracting additional members will place additional server load, but Shaun seems to have this sorted as this site is pretty slick on speed.

I think we should go bigger. I'd happily give a tenner.
But if we could raise, say, £100 we could afford to run three smaller adds in three successive issues which might have more impact than one big one.
