I'm with Hastings Direct and my bikes are covered worldwide and while in transit. They are classed as named personal possessions** of a value greater than £1500 each and can be taken away from the property. Much like an expensive piece of jewelry or very high end laptop.
If your Buildings and Contents is due for renewal before you travel spend sometime researching the possibilities. I've had this type of cover for a long time. I move my insurance around depending on the level of cycle cover and always choose a known, quality provider.
** This is key to cycle insurance on H&C policies rather than straight forward bike cover.

My B&C covers up to a max of £2500 for a bike only but won’t cover transit overseas. Suppose many would say not to take a decent bike abroad but I figure they are for riding, enjoying and making memories that you look back on and rides you remember. Cycle specific insurance is a joke, over £200 for the year. My motorbike is £280 with full breakdown, legal, European, helmet, leathers the lot.
Not sure, my travel insurance is all covered and done by company on an annual basis so don’t know anything about it. Actually never seen it so maybe they never take it out

Our house insurance is currently with Sheila's Wheels (
)....I just chatted online to add my Specialised (value just over a grand with panniers/bags). After some checks, they told me "your total additional premium is £0. This includes you administration fee of £20.00. However, the change today has reduced the premium so the two amounts have cancelled each other out."
Seemed a decent result to me!
Now I know when the bike is not in a garage or locked to an immovable object, it isn't covered (& I will be doing a few nights camping along the way, so will need to be careful there!), but even so, that seemed reasonable enough.
I had done a check on 'cycleplan', which started at just over £50 without any of the extras they list.....
