Don't really make much difference, to most it's an old mountain bike.

Blimey, what's going on with that steerer?

If Cape Wrath anywhere between £100- 220 depending on condition and year and whether it has discs ( preferable). According to the EvilBay.

No discs, I,ve put alli brake block holders on and better forks as originals seized. There is sticker that says Dimple, though I doubt it's the model. That's where I got username from. I paid £140 from Barnados, so hopefully you are right and the others are not.

For a alli frame, only £100? I've upgraded gears from 21 to 24 and increased front sprocket size for extra top end.

It's not a particularly nice alloy frame, not butted or hydroformed, and was a relatively inexpensive bike to begin with. If it is a Cape Wrath they were heavy, not expecially well thought of, were budget bikes just a step above the likes of Apollo.

Brand new comparable bikes start about about the £200 from the usual brands, so you did Barnardos a favour there (it's a good cause, so why not?)

You could re upholster the saddle with a pair of Rosamund Pike's old bras and it wouldn't add anything to the value.

Modify it because you might want to improve it, not with any expectation of improving the value, because it won't.

Of course. It's solid won't rust, and I gave to a charity.

That crazy tall bit above the forks with the handlebars attached!! I'd worry about that myself, looks rather cobbled together

Do you mean the bar on the handle bars? It's a bar to mount lights on. My light slides on to a bracket and the brakes get in the way if mounted direct to handle bars, From Temu.

No the bit circled in the picture, that silver bit and 2 or more of the black rings look to have been added!

That's a Claud Butler Cape Wrath from after they closed their factory in Britain and became an importer of Chinese made bikes. £99.99 new at DW Sports around 2003ish.

Here's the thing though - the aftermarket bits would have easily cost you more than £50 new, and it's had little use. So you weren't ripped off! If you're using it, £140 is a perfectly fair price for a bike that will give you many years of reliable transport. I'd buy it if I needed a mountain bike.
