I’m trying to think of the name of one that was about milkmen, during the mid 80s, it was really terrible, “Confession s of a milkman” type.

Bottle Boys.

It has to be seen to fully appreciate how bad it really is. It makes Mrs Brown's Boys look good.

Created by the same genius who brought us Love Thy Neighbour and Mind Your Language.

Only just seen this thread, as people are responding to it again.

I'm not sure I have ever seen a full episode of any of the ones listed here.

I've seen a couple of part episodes of Men Behaving Badly, and loathed it. I saw a few bits of On The Buses when I was a teenager, and it just left me cold. The rest of them I haven't even seen parts of episodes.

Another one which seems to be getting a lot of loathing here though is Gavin & Stacey. I can't say it ranks among my favourites, but it is OK, and many millions of people (including my wife) love it.

If so many people laugh at it and enjoy it, then it really can't be bad.

Also, since Derry Girls finished, it's the only TV entertainment the Oirish get.

for a rather nuanced interpretation of "entertainment"

Is it acceptable to say that you find the Holiday on the Buses film quite entertaining in an undemanding kind of way? 😂

It did. Briefly. It doesn't any more.

Measuring the success of a sitcom based on viewing figures is absolute nonsense. It's on at weird times for a reason.

How else would you measure the success?

I suspect that what you are really saying is that you think it is crap, so the viewing figures showing many people disagree aren't a valud measure.
