Watching Wheeler Dealers today and it occurred to me that Mike is an annoying fat **** and Edd deserves a medal for not beating him up with a breaker bar and sending him to the crushers in the boot of an old Marina.

I opined this obviously correct opinion when the poor deluded Mrs D piped up that she quite liked Mike. Well, once I'd refitted my monocle I felt duty bound to correct her.

But then it occurred to me. This controversial programme has many admirers, but not all will like the presenters. So who is right?

Discuss.
Ed's the boy.

I have owned some of the cars worked on and I feel they gloss over some common faults people should really look out for. Also do they always do the work themselves? I heard a story that eg a Citroen van turned into a camper was actually done by a specialist in these particular conversions tho’ allegedly done by them.

I actually know a chap who knows Mike Brewer, although he's not particularly fond of him. There's a small team of spanner men and Edd, and now probably Ant, do get stuck in but their role is closer to supervisory than actually doing all the donkey work single handed, as the show would have us believe.

Sometimes on WD you do get Paul (I think) mentioned who seems to be the other mechanic who works with Edd. I wouldn't be surprised if on occasion they had a team working on the cars, just to meet filming deadlines. We are restoring an old car and you can spend hours just getting a rusty bolt off.

The worst car show ever was that one with Bernie and Mario; contrived, set up nonsense, with fake disasters and rows every episode.

I only really like the shows where they actually show the mechanical and bodywork stuff. Too many are about the characters and have set up dramas. I find Gas Monkey Garage irritating for the same reason. In fact, I've given up watching most of the car shows now.

Oh, Bernie the old boy mechanic who reckoned he was mates with the Krays? That was utter pap.

And that other one, Chasing Classic Cars. The guy never makes a profit, and nothing he ever sells at auction meets reserve, so how the hell he's in business is anyone's guess.
He got his TV to bail him out but he does track down some fabulous cars

Their skill levels do not impress me, Ed replacing £1500 worth of gearbox because the clutch was dragging, machine polishing alloy wheels, replacing repairable windscreens and the list would be larger if I watched more shows.
