As long as I breathe, I attack.
I had the same issue with white tape , went black a long time ago .

Just get some old school Benotto translucent tape, far better look than any modern stuff. The yellow was particularly good, I always thought.
I was going to mention that, great tape and very grippy even in the wet. Benetto also did a padded plastic tape which also did not let your hands slip in the wet. White was no problem as it was easy to clean.

I hate that cork rubbish, it neither looks right or feels right.

I must admit that when the black bar tape on my bikes started to look tatty I just rolled a layer of electrical tape over the top.

Your white bar tape is now all grey and manky. So what? If it puts a hurt on your eye, get a litre of isopropyl alcohol and a stiff nail brush.

Actually, why bother?
Are you seriously saying that people actually choose a tape other than black or possibly brown leather on older bikes.

I always assumed that those bikes with white or coloured tape came like that from the shop and the owners just hadn't got round to changing them yet.
Define 'older bike'. Here's a Renault Elf Gitane team bike from 1983.
