Not sure if there's a topic on this already (I searched but couldn't find), but there's a cycling guide in today's Guardian with part 2 to come in the observer tomorrow. It's a good little read for beginners with cycling tips on the road and cycle paths, and contains a bunch of scenic and challenging routes (including hill climb routes, short distance and long distance).
It also contains a £25 Evans voucher when you subscribe to the guardian, or something like that. All in all well worth a read!
