think murder rates and gun ownership are much higher than the Spanish islands or anywhere in western Europe twinned with poverty and you riding down some quiet mountain roads with hundreds of pounds worth of equipment. think even a lot of the resorts don't lend themselves to people going wandering out much which is a shame but maybe a safety reason for it.

I have actually cycled in Barbados, Atlantic coast side, very quiet, very beautiful, in fact it is just astonishingly beautiful, everything about the place is just wonderful x1000 (mind you I have only ever been abroad 4x in my life so I'm probably not as well travelled as others)
First time hotel had free hire bikes, second time there was no bikes to hire but the next day the man arrived with a bike for me that he borrowed off his neighbour, it was a bit of an old clunker like rhinna is riding but who cares, that seemed to be part of the beauty of the place, it is just so laid back and friendly.[/QUOTE]
Indeed. Plenty of organised cycling groups on the bigger islands. There's a picture being painted of lawless countries with third world infrastructure, which is far from the case.

"Cycling holiday" suggests touring or day rides. Barbados is 43km in length so I would have toured it in a day. Day rides would be a struggle to get much variety

I have a friend I follow on Strava who lives on Antigua and does almost as many miles on his road bike as I do on mine.
Since last week he's only been on his mountain bike.....
