Cycling is the new golf

I tried Golf once when I was about 15 or 16 when I went with a friend of my Dad's. I got lumbered with carrying the clubs and got a mouthful from someone for daring to walk on the green with my Doc Marten boots and then I not allowed into the bar because I was "inappropriately" dressed.

Took an instant dislike that day, not so much the game itself but the people who play it.
Funny that, ALL people who ride bikes are nobs as well.

Ta for that. In September we are doing a bit of railfanning as we have booked a trip through the Canadian Rockies on the Canadian Pacific:hyper:. (Sadly I don't think they'll let me bring the bike:sad:)
Yes, but it has to ride as checked baggage, according to VIA. Now, if you are taking Royal Canadian Pacific, that may be a whole different kettle of fish, as they seem quite mum on the topic of baggage and physical activity other than fly-fishing

I worked for years in retail management, and I do not recall sport coming up in any interviews with prospective employees. Nor did it come up whilst I was in media sales. If I am going to tell something I need to know about a person, I would actually have to play a round of golf with them. That's not really practical in that situation. People/team working skills and expertise were always much more interesting to me.

The tax payer pays for the roads, not the golf courses.

I tried playing golf some years back. It was very tiring as the ball never went where I wanted it to, though I always got my money's worth from a round of golf as I wandered all over the course looking for my mis-hit golf ball.

Cycling is much easier as I can see where I have to go....just follow the tarmac

I don't see this. Golf seems to be about business deals to me - "it's where the clients are" is something I'm told when querying the golf club membership on the books of the company I'm doing the final accounts for. Kinda hard pulling off a sale during a 50-miler...

Its also kinda hard "losing convincingly" to a red faced sweating opponent/boss when you're obviously a lot fitter/faster than them:whistle:

Also we had a big boss from California over a few years back and he liked cycling.

So we invited him to a time trial on the A4146. It was pissing with rain and for some reason the traffic was unusually heavy that evening and we didn't let him beat us.
