Cycling mirrors

I have mirrors on my bikes that fit in the end of the drop handlebars but they seem to move when theres a slightly bumpy toad and if u try to tighten the cross head small screw that holds them in the end of the bars the plastic inserts break, is there a good sort of mirror for drop handlebars that stay in place when you get them set up just right so you can see well behind, i look at many riders and never see mirrors fitted to their bikes. Any ideas anyone.....

I had CatEye Race Mirrors on my old roadie, they did come loose after a bit but I just tightened them back up again no problems.. In fact, I could tighten it far more than I needed to, and did at first, before realising I could no longer fold it back.

A colleague at work uses a helmet mirror and reckons they are very good.

I've got one of these It's not really very good, it wobbles all over the place if the road is at all rough.

It can be handy if you're riding in a small group and you want to make sure no one is getting left behind, eg if you're pacing a slower rider up a hill and don't want to leave them behind.

For general riding and as a safety extra, it's not very useful.

To be honest, it lives in my box of junk.

I have a Zefal Spy and find it works well. Easy to swap between bikes too.

I have mirrors similar to these http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_784805_langId_-1_categoryId_210161 fitted on the down tubes of both my bikes. They don't offer perfect vision but they give a good indication of what's behind you and what is approaching you. I'm blind in the right eye so turning my head almost as far as i can to look over my right shoulder isn't that easy or that safe,especially in heavy traffic! They might not be "cool" to some but to prefer vanity to safety in my case isn't advisable!
