To "clutch pearls" (or "clutch one's pearls") means to react to a situation with exaggerated shock, dismay, or moral outrage. It describes a melodramatic or overly sensitive response—often when someone feigns more shock than they actually feel to judge others.

Ah, I see. Not quite sure where the "exaggerated shock, dismay or moral outrage" are that Drago seems to have inferred. Perhaps he is overestimating the frailty of my personality. I've fought in two world wars and killed men with my bare hands. A stranger on an internet isn't going to upset me.

I thought that maybe the pearls Drago was talking about were on the pearl necklace I gave to his wife the other night. She seemed pleased with the gift.
