Cycling Weekly are awful

Never subscribed to them before until this Sept and won't renew! All new subscribers in Sept were to be sent a free gift, some Madison cycling shorts. Never arrived. My wife called them to find out where they were,they apologised and said they will send some asap. That was two weeks ago. Not arrived. She called them again yesterday and they said they couldnt send any as they had run out. She asked if the free gift now could be sent instead,they said no as the supplier for those is different and not linked to the Sept offer! They gave her a poxy free month extension. Seems to me this free gift malarky is a bit of a scam. Cant get a refund neither. I cancelled my Boxing News subs for this,when I was with them they sent the free gift within 1 week of starting the sub. Seems like some companies do not value their customers

I'm glad you posted this! I've been toying with the idea of subscribing for a while partly due to the carrot of a free, sometimes valuable, gift. It does say in the small print that the gits might be different from shown but nothing (I think) about not getting one at all.

I did subscribe to The Spectator thougt and got 12 bottles of wine. Which was nice.

It is dishonest IMO. I have loads of bibshorts so am not fussed that they ran out,but at least provide an alternative. A free month of a magazine I now have a poor opinion of isnt a decent alternative to me

Surely it is a combination of things? They try to entice subscribers with offers then dont back it up once they have your money. I dont want to read anything what these shithouses print anymore. One thing I despise is underhandedness and dishonesty.

My dad subscribed and got a pair of Tifosi light reflective cycling shades. Expensive and nice. He gave them to me

My Dad used to get Cycling in the days when there was no other sources of cycling news and was full of good stuff. Even info about mopeds. I carried on from the 60's, but for the last decade or more, it's full of adverts and bland items aimed at newbie cyclists. Very little uk news and very little TT stories. Best items are the Helms cartoons.
Occasionally I get tempted to buy another copy, but usually disappointed and remind myself not to bother.

Wasnt taken out purely for the 'bribe'! People missing the point time and again!! If you assert that you will give someone a gift in return for a subscription then you should bloody well ensure you have enough stock to cover them..or..have a replacement on hand just in case. Do they not look at historical subs trends? Again..I will repeat myself..its the principal!!

As above really. I stopped buying it after they stopped covering club racing....

Worryingly I appear to be as old as your Dad! - I use to buy Cycling & Mopeds mag way back when - IIRC it was all printed in black only ... and had ads for those "deerstalker" style crash helmets for the moped riders (although not compulsory at the time) as well as Raleigh and BSA bikes ... and Campag or Cyclo Benelux gears, no hint of Shimano.)

Probably a little younger than my dad. He rode before the "war" and would be 96 if he was still with us. I must have been about 8 when I read the Cycling & Mopeds. Used to contain some great pictures of the sprinters - Reg Harris & co.

Did you use a credit card? I think you would have the right to dispute the charge.
