Norm, you beat me to it. I was thinking of the ultimate just like you posting : a huge 4x4 pulling a 25+ foot caravan bouncing and weaving all over the carriageway, sporting a sticker on the back, "Keep a safe distance!" or "If you can read this you are too close!" or "My other vehicle is another caravan."

You forgot to add bikes on a rack.

quite. Get over it Gareth. That kind of person is just not worth bothering with. We're resented because we're fitter, we're brighter, we're quicker, we're better looking, we're better at sex, our children are better at maths, we laugh out loud from the sheer joy of riding a bike, we see more of the world, our appreciation of nature, towns, the seasons and architecture is that much more intense and satisfying, we live longer, we have more friends and our bowel movements are both regular and spectacular. What more do you want - the respect of muppets? Forget it.

My bowel movements have been pretty regular (every 10 minutes) and spectacular, thanks to a course of antibiotics.

Which finished last night. *he typed through the bottom of the empty glass*

A few drivers going by the clip!!

No, one jogger, the jogger being Eddy Izzard on his record attempt .

Perhaps running the busy A483 when he was in Wales was not the smartest move, but hat's off to him completing the Herculian task.

Oh FFS.

Jogger/joggers being a 'group' that some people find annoying.
Jogger/joggers run on the road around here, many country roads don't have any kind of paths, which part of cambs do you live in!!?

Who hates Eddie Izzard? - Reply - some of the car users in the video. (going on his reactions)

I'm a relatively new cyclist commuter in London. I love it and have become a bit evangelical about the cause!

A lot of people obviously talk to me about it in my office and I can't quite believe the ignorent comments of hate I have heard! from people I know to be tolerant intelligent people normally.

Aside from the abuse from the pedestrians, car/van drivers and motorcyclists I sometimes get for no reason on my journey I now have to put up with it form colleagues.

Actual conversations I have had (bare in mind these poeple started the conversation asking me about being a cyclist):

Him - "I used to cycle in ages ago, it was alright - but not anymore - to be honest...I just hate cyclists mate"
Me - "Eh? what do you mean?" (thinking...Firstly you were one so that doesnt make sense and also...HELLOOOO ?....YOU are CLEARLY talking to A CYCLIST)
Him - well this was this time where one with a big darth vader mask fing shouted at me going through a canal tunnel cos i couldnt hear his bell"

I dont remember what I said, because to this day I am still shocked at how many rediculous points there were made.

Another conversation:

Her - "How long does it take you then?"
Me "about an hour and quarter"
Her "oh thats quite good innit"
Me "Yup"
Her "I cant stand it when cyclists dont stop at zebra crossings when youre going to walk on them. They think cos theyre cycling and that "theyre saving the world" that they can just not stop for you - Thats why I hate them"
Me - "Well, like anything you get some idiots - I guess he didnt stop because it would have been hard for him to stop and restart again?" (Thinking......thats just ONE person! and also if ever you were going to display bad manners then the best reason to do it was because you were saving the world)
Her- "I laugh when they have to start on their bikes - serves them right"

Now, Both of these events summed up seem to be exactly the same as me going up to say a religious person and saying I hate your lot - one of them once did something bad. Which would NEVER happen! especially at work!

The cyclist, the minority that can be publicly abused.

Although you cant really give hating cyclists a name cos it already ends in "ist"....You're being Cyclistist.....and displaying Cyclism?

Oh come now before you fully succomb to this fashion of peeing up the wall to see who is the biggest victim.

Dear readers, please observe this thread title as an example that pays testament to the importance of concision, consideration, and aptness. Over-exaggeration, and clichéd language soon pervades ones mode of thinking (the whole 'Language influences...Thought influences...' circle.) When our vocabulary is diluted with banalities and extremities, each word looses is devoid of its meaning and consequently its power - one needn't read further than 1984 or some Noam Chomski to gain a better appreciation.

Now how many cyclists do you know have been targeted and been abused despite having no connection with the attacker. Are there political parties set against 're'patriating cyclists to a long lost land. Are you deemed unintelligent, subhuman, and lacking in culture, aptitude, or refinement. Is your culture belittled, and mocked to the extent that it is downgraded to petty brainwashing 'edu'tainment for children. Are you stereotyped as inhuman, and portrayed as ineffective regularly through all media channels. The answer I am confident in imagining, is none.

So we might sometimes get a wrong deal, some simplistic stereotypes as eco-warriors may be common-place, and evidently some fools may decide to single you out for being different (cue facebook, or stupid comments.) However to put this on par with racism or xenophobia is at best glib, and at worst mindlessly disingenuous.

I've checked a few of these FB hate groups and they seem to have been hijacked by cyclists, so become a fan and post some cycling love

You write an erudite (but patronising) tome, but can't spell 'LOSES'. (Seems to be the most commonly misspelt word in this forum - looses = unties, sets free etc)

I work in a car place and most me the lads seen their arse when i rode in 1 day. I was 1 of the 'enemy' ! I feel alot of motorists can easily ignore cyclists yet its quite obvious that THEY would ride pretty much the same if they rode too. I've heard some drivers say if they do ride 'my, you can see how bad driving is, when your on a bike' !
