Late to the the thread as usual but.... I once dated a French girl who I met in Manchester, asked her if she'd like to go for a little walk in Silverdale one fine Sunday, she agreed so I warned her wear sensible footwear. Picked her up and she was wearing.... high heeled suede boots! Made my approach boots look a bit OTT. That relationship never got off the ground.

yes he did and although I don't see him anymore, we do still speak occasionally and he's still my favourite ex, and probably the only one i haven't regretted for one reason or another. he's my benchmark. it's hard to go back to burger when you've had steak. as they say. if you think that's 1950s... take me back in time.

Hes certainly spoiled things with other chaps for you then? Can't you entice him back?

Be yourself, be honest

Don't get too wound up by it all, its just another human being you are asking to spend a few hours with you at this point, you are not deciding the rest of your life in a phone call, lunch, etc

If you think you would like to start with a lunch date phone her and ask when she is free and tell her what days you are free over the next week, decide on a day between you.

That's exactly what I've done but by text.....no response so far but still early days.

Yeah, I'm just weird perhaps. I find the phone quite stressful, I think I rely very much on visual cues when talking to someone, and my hearing is sometimes a bit 'timelagged' - it can take me a moment to process what someone has said. I think that's magnified on the phone.

I think in that lady's situation, I'd welcome a text saying "Hi, it's X, it was nice to meet you yesterday, can I call you to chat later?" Nothing to misinterpret, and it gives her the chance to say "Yes, fine!" or "Yes, around 8 is best" or something like that. Gives her a little bit more control.

But I know I'm not necessarily a good template for the average woman.

This is what I texted...." Hello Sheila..hows you today? It was lovely meeting you yesterday. I'm wondering if you are free for a bite to eat somewhere this coming week? I'm free on Monday and Tuesday...how about you?...Anyway it will be nice to see you again..Hope to hear from you soon..Alan

How does that sound? Would you be put off by that?

Well that's me told. Got 4 kids in the caravan at the minute and Jurassic Park was just put on. Wife says to one of the other kids(not ours) that this was the first date we had 20 years ago. 8 year old just looked at me and said 'dinosaur film as a date'..... Oops.

Don't ask for my advice.
