There's no way they would ignore a report of a dangerous dog or owner. Such a shame as I know that it's cold comfort to you and your daughter but Staffies are a great breed in the right hands. I'm sure there will be further repercussions. Good luck.

My daughter in law says the dogs to watch most for a bite and being unpredictable are border collies , she's a vet btw

Sadly we don't put down or castrate humans...which is the reason we get nasty dogs

View attachment 448102 I have owned staffies.

My heart goes out to you as when confronted by capable dogs we feel vulnerable, more so when our children are the victim.

My so son was attacked and bitten by an alsatian when he was 13, he knows how to handle dogs so was not panicked until it bit him leaving him badly scarred. I don’t have an issue with Alsatians but this dog should have been under control.

I have seen a Labrador kill a small dog brutally on woolacombe beach, it was horrible!

You could have used my Staffies to re habilitated nervous burglars, they would let another dog eat from there food bowl. Staffordshire bull terriers have powerful jaws but so do so many other breeds including those considered to be service dogs. They are a victim sometimes of a certain kind of owner but inherently are a gentle loyal massively affectionate breed.

Please don’t give credence to bad owners as all dogs command responsible ownership.

This was Max, my children loved him and he was our Staffie
Do you mean 'demand responsible ownership?'

Having your dog thrown round like a rag doll by a dog is never nice. Lucky mine recovered be it spending a few days shaking under the table and only eating out my hand. The owner was no help either when it happened. But if they can’t see how things Could have turned out in this case then let’s hope they will be made to learn be it the hard way.

Colies can be nippy (my Dad used to breed them and my experience of growing up with never less than 8 in the house puts me in agreement with your lass), but that's not the whole tale. A staffy can exert 500psi or more pressure with its jaws, over 5 times that of a collie. I'd rather not be bitten by any dog, but given the choice of the two I know which one in particular I'd want not to bite me.

But its owners to blame, not animals, not staffies, or rotties or chihuahuas. Lemmy is soft as anything and loves kids, but he is a big lad and very bouncy, and I don't want him bounding up and frightening someone so he stays on his lead until I get to the farm where I have permission to walk him.

Dog + public place = lead. Brain surgery it is not.

Trouble with staff's and similar breeds is they go for the face.
With horrendous results..
I love dogs ,but they really are only as good as the owner..some dogs like a king Charles wont be a nasty dog, but a yorkie or a Chihuahua with savage your hand in a blink of an eye..bloody things..
A good owner will keep them on a lead and be aware of other people ...

My wife is terrified of dogs for similar reasons to @Heltor Chasca daughters experience.

The police came round and sat down with us. I’ve sent the photos and the ball is in their court.

I am impressed. They knew the score as soon as they saw the photos. One was a dog handler so could understand my description of the behaviour of the dogs.

They were personable, introduced themselves by their first names, amused my daughter and didn’t ask for coffee or donuts once. Their presence has really taken the edge of our experience. Man I wish government recognised how important it is that we need to fund the forces.

Ouch, sorry to see this, @Heltor Chasca - hope you and your lass come out of this OK. That's a nasty one...

My experience with Staffies is entirely positive. They're lovely dogs, and if I was in the position to have a dog, that'd be what I'd go for. But as others have said, it's not so much dangerous dogs as dangerous owners. Whether that's through being a berk or just through plain ignorance or laziness, the end result is still the same.

Neighbours of mine, retired farmers who'd had dogs all their lives, had a tricolour border collie that they had to have put down. Was their own fault, getting a dog from working lines, giving him nothing to (he was chained in the garden all day, not allowed in the house at all), didn't socialise him, not even the most basic of training, didn't neuter him... Of course the poor dog was destructive and would bite anyone within range. Myself included...

"Staffies go for the face."
"Staffies have powerful jaws."

Just two of the comments that caught my eye.
Any dog can go for the face. Or a hand. Or a leg. They have no preference.
All dogs have powerful jaws. Breed doesn't come into it.

My own staffie/Jack Russel cross is super hyperactive and likes having a good nibble on just about everything but is the biggest softie in the world. She gallops up to little kids and rolls onto her back to have her tummy rubbed. That's how vicious she is. Terrifying.
But thanks to threads like this and certain misguided posts, many adults are afraid of her breed. Maybe we could edit the title? Dogs aren't dangerous. Their owners are.

Glad your daughter is OK heltor.
