Hydraulic disk brakes can put far more braking force on than any other type of brake. Cost is the limiting factor

Whats your thoughts on Cables, or are they to futuristic as well, and we need to stick with rods?

well cables are horrible in fact brakes are horrible in general. i prefer to make up a strap on steel toe and heel to strap on to the underneath of each shoe and just use them to stop. the sparks make you look super cool! :biggrin:

I like the idea behind using disc brakes, and only see benefits to be honest. I guess they weight more than the rim brake option but I know for sure a few kgs more will not have too much affect on my type of riding.

It's not even a few KG's.
Disc brakes are surprisingly light.
