The there TF was just wondering where abouts your rutland photos were taken. one seems local to me near Holywell, but dont know if it is or not.

Correct, the middle one is at Holywell, the lake looked so good in the Autumn sun it deserved a photo. The top one is near Wynondham and the lower one is my better half at Rutland Water.
I have booked the weather for Saturday and paid my dues by working outside all day yesterday in non stop rain.

I do use my mountain bike very occasionally on the road but I always put semi-slicks on it, if you have the standard big knobbly tyres you will struggle to stay with a road or even hybrid bike. If that is all you have ever ridden you are in for a very pleasant surprise when you ride something lighter and better rolling, chalk and cheese really.
I'd second that. I once rode my mountain bike 17 miles to a bike shop to order a new racing bike and then rode 17 miles home. 34 miles on big knobblies felt harder than a 50 mile ride does on my road bikes.

but not helpful Colin, just cos you can't come and it's going to be great weather on quiet roads, nice cafe with a bike shop next to it and probably the last ride this year with autumn colours still around. No, you are way better off missing it.

Sounds great and I'd love to join you. Unfortunately, I can't make it for this one but I will try to time a family visit in the Spring or Summer to coincide with another of your Rutland rides.

If I'm fit enough by then, I might even ride down to Coventry mid-week, do a Rutland ride on the Saturday/Sunday and ride back to Hebden Bridge the middle of the following week. That would be a great week of cycling if the weather was good.

In case I don't visit this thread again before Saturday - have a great time y'all!

Really sorry you both can't make it, promises to be a good day. All being well I will run another one on a Sunday in December but only if it's dry as not likely to get many takers on a cold wet day at that time of year. Hopefully I'll see you both next time.
