i'm struggling to come up with an answer for this, especially as you've just done a barn conversion, built a garage and summer house. if these were for you, then why didn't you factor in bike storage into all these buildings.........................if they weren't built for you, then the above discussions have taken care of everything

Personally would go for the wheels against the wall / bikes hanging vertically option - purely as that's what I've done and I do think it allows you to get more bikes in a smaller space - especially if you top and tail them

Two thoughts on this though:

1. This option sticks out further from the wall - depends if this matters to you given the space you have available
2. Kids might struggle to get bikes off the walls more with this option - again don't know if this is an issue for you

I've only taken up cycling ( triathlon) in the past year and the other projects were before then. I use (abuse) my garage to the extent I'd worry about damaging bikes with sparks, chemicals, pains etc.

Also you never know what solutions people come up with.

Good point for the kids Ill put their mounts lower on a rail I can slide up as they grow
