After reading and contributing to the "good deed thread" it got me wondering does anyone believe in fate and or karma?
Is our life planned out for us or do we create our own lives and futures, do we believe that karma will punish those who are evil that do wrong or or cause harm to others.
i have my own theories / beliefs regards fate and karma how about you guys?

I don't believe in Peter Pan, Frankenstein or Superman; or fate/karma. I believe our lives are purely down to what we make them, with a not insignificant helping hand from our parents and previous generations. Opportunities to do well in life come from our background, but what we do with those opportunities is up to us. Similarly, those from dodgy backgrounds may be disadvantaged to begin with, but they can turn their back on it and make something of life with a bit of guidance.

Life is possibly planned out for us in tje sense that we have only the illusion of free will, but that's a quirk of physics and biology rather than any spiritual superstitious mumbo jumbo.

I don't believe in God but do believe in fate. The universe follows rules which we don't understand fully but affects everything and everyone throughout space.

I knew you were going to double post that. It's fate I tell thee!

I don't believe in "fate" per se but I do believe that we should always try to do the best for ourselves and others.

I always aim to do a good deed each day no matter how small. This might be letting someone out at a junction when driving; holding a door open; making a conscious effort of thanking my team for a good piece of work when it could otherwise go unnoticed/be accepted as the norm etc etc.

I'd like to think that these would be repaid in someways and often that is simply me feeling better for it.

Blind faith is the world's worst enemy, especially in Africa where religious fatalism is actually hindering development. Christians or Muslims are just as bad: my child dies through being given fake drugs in hospital? It's the will of God. My family was wiped out in a car crash? It's the will of God. A politician steals all the country's money? It's the will of God. It makes people passive and docile, which is what religion was invented to do, I suppose. We should fight it and take responsibility for what happens.
