Do you buy or read newspapers..?

These days I only buy my local paper, and the (Toronto) Globe and Mail. Online I read The Guardian and less regularly Le Monde, the New York Times and the Asahi Shimbun (Japan), and even less often The Times and O Globo (Brazil) and a few bits and pieces from others. From an international perspective, The Guardian is one of the best newspapers in the world by some distance.

I buy the Southern Echo for somthing to read during my lunch break at work and also for the jobs on a Thursday.

Saturday Telegraph regularly and I'll buy a Daily Telegraph when travelling.

As for local papers... never.

The Guardian, which is still a repository of straightforward reporting and good writing.

And a touch of middle class public sector bias, Dell, just a touch.

FT for me, always the Weekend Edition and generally one in the week. The 'Watches as Investment' supplements and the like go straight in the bin, but the news reporting is top quality. And it doesn't have any of the tedious stories about the Royals or celebrities which make their way into even the broadsheets.

I buy the Guardian every day. I like the random nature of coming across articles on subjects I wouldn't search out on the net, just by turning the page. I like the fact that Mrs rich p can read G" while I read the sports section. I like taking the crossword to the loo.
I use yesterdays to collect the ashes and the rest to lay the next fire.

When I was in Australia I had a discussion with some locals about the lack of a good paper there to read about non-parochial affairs. They said I was talking nonsense because the Guardian International edition was just that

Saturday Guardian. I'd buy it during the week but I don't have the time to read it.

I buy the Times a few times a week, always the Sunday Times. Being a student i can't afford to get it everyday though!

I get The Grauniad half price by taking out a subscription. Every little helps.

I used to get the Witney Gazette for local news and the Oxford Times for world news! I now subscribe to The Week.

I once knew a lifelong communist who read the Telegraph. "Know your enemy" was the explanation.

And the London Evening Standard is now free, its way of seeing off the freebies that were driving it out of business. Whether it can survive on advertising revenue alone is another matter.

Used to buy Grauniad in the morning, Evening Stndard in the evening (when I lived in London). Now I just read the news on t'interweb, occasionally getting either a Saturday or Sunday paper (and associated piles of rubbish that come with them).

While we're here, who can forget the "Morny Stannit"? (Morecambe and Wise sketch)
