Do you ever just go for a drive?

I used to do it a lot, but I don't get the temptation nowadays. I'd go for the last showings at the cinema just for the fun of driving home through the countryside on deserted roads.
I'm in a relationship now, and there's just lots more adventures to have. Although we may just run out somewhere for the fun of it sometimes.

Not me as the driver (driving stresses me out) but I used to enjoy be taken for a drive: got to do the navigating, great fun this!

Lamborghini do advise a once-a-week spin to keep the coke out of the Murciélago Roadster's cylinders - I understand your raison d'etre, P.

I think you need more Countach with the real world, only Sultanas drive a Lamborghini these days.

Absolutely! I'm a confirmed petrolhead. Had a TVR Chimaera as a fair weather car when I lived in the UK but sold the old girl when I moved to the US. V8 rumble - yummy! My TT bike slotted nicely into the boot of the TVR and always caused a bit of a stir when I pulled up to race HQ :-)

No, I need to be going somewhere to do something. The novelty of driving wore off some while ago. It probably peaked when I owned a Golf GTI mk1 and then a MK2 and using them on the Scottish Highland roads.

This picture was taken in Northumberland going from York to Scotland near Inverness when my father was taken ill. It was the same until just before Edinburgh. We had set off after digging the car out of the drive and averaged c.50mph over the 400 miles.



My best trip last year was to the Alps within a few miles of the Italian border. My 17 year old van did the c.2500 miles without a hiccup although the bits in the UK were the usual ballache with a section of the M25 closed (melting tar and elsewhere a car crash). On arrival parked the van up and did a 10 day cycle camping tour which made it all worthwhile.

Never just 'go for a drive' in my car - even though I had a midlife crisis & bought/paying for a sports hatchback.

I would 'go for a ride' with no destination or purpose on a motorbike (funds don't allow both) or on my cycle.

Hate driving cars.

Worlds apart.

I try to minimise it due to petrol costs these days but still do so a lot. Lots of traffic free roads to enjoy here, shame about the increasing pothole epidemic.

Use to, had over 5,000 pictures of the county (& parts of North/South Yorkshire too) but lost a lot when I had a hard-drive problem

Sometimes exploring RUPPs/Byways when I had the Landies (before the reclassification of them)

When i was younger i did but its changed quite a bit in the 10 years ive been driving, i remember fuel costing 86p a litre and thinking that was expensive

No - can't see the point

its exactly the same as going out for a ride i suppose. I never really cycle anywhere in particular, i just choose a circular route that'll take me 4-5 hours. I don't cycle for fitness or to improve any personal 'best'... it's almost always just for the fun of it.

Back in the good old days of free petrol and cars which were easy to work with (Mk1 Escorts/Fiestas and so forth), going for a 'cruise' was normal on Friday & Saturday nights.
Nowadays I drive a practical, gas guzzling 4x4 so fun drives are out
