Do you ever just go for a drive?

As the title says really.
I enjoy driving and have found that I often just go out for the sake of it.
I know most people wont have the time or money to just go for a drive, but does anyone still do it?

Alas, no. Belonging to a shoot is far too expensive.

I did quite a bit a few years back when I had a Triumph Stag but driving became a chore after moving from an outlying village back into the city and having kids, and getting a 'sensible family car'. It just became mundane and cycling faster and barring an occasional close pass more enjoyable.

The kids are now old enough to be left alone, feed themselves and not raid the booze cupboard.
I bought an Alfa Spider during the summer and while still not really just going out for a drive I've been looking for excuses to go out in it - even if it's just a change of location for a run instead of around the local park

The car on the pole - my Dad used to have one of them! And I still think the fastback coupe version was actually a nice looking car. Even a bit 911 like - same layout anyway.

Used to as a kid, we would go as a group up and down the country on road trips. Great fun. These days driving is pleasurable but rarely rewarding due to traffic levels. Freedom is found by cycling

Of course he does. Lots of keen cyclists are petrolheads aswell.

Now and again., I quite like driving, but I mainly use my car for shopping 25 miles away as we live in the middle of nowhere.

Yes. Well off the beaten track, and very rarely are there busses.

I did when I was your age Matthew, but when your job involves driving, many miles of which are in a HGV you really don't see the attraction anymore.

Yebbut, driving on your own terms without a transport manager hassling you in the face of traffic delays (not to mention idle forklift drivers) is totally different.
At the age of 51, I still go off for a drive in the car quite regularly, especially when the weather is not conducive to pleasant cycling (i.e. the last month!). The freedom of going where I like, in my time scale, is such a contrast to driving for a living. I am fortunate in living in an area where we can still enjoy the benefits of roads with sparse traffic. Sitting in queues of traffic is not my idea of fun.
I still have a motorbike too, which takes things onto a whole new level, as can only be appreciated by fellow bikers! It also does away with the problem of traffic queues.

Hate driving ......
Now a motorcycle is different. What was supposed to be a half hour hack to blow off steam turned into 3 hours out on the road. Haven't had a motorbike in a couple years tho

It's not whizzing until the back steps out , and front wheel drive cars are the work of

That poor S100 has been on that pole for years to advertise a scrap yard in Mlada Boleslav ( Skoda town).It is Dutch registered which makes me wonder what happened to the owners ! S110R Coupe's are stunning cars and are such a dream to drive. My old dealer had one in full 1970's rally colours and I used to take it to car shows in the 90's
