Don't let them get to you WeeE, just progress at what rate you feel comfortable with and ride where you like, just don't squish anyone with your bike
Magnatom, I think you miss the point, I agree about cycle lanes/shared paths joining the main flow of the road. I agree if someone decided to whizz across a crossing from pavement to pavement. As I said, if you are careful, and actually stop and look both ways when crossing, effectively acting as a pedestrian just with two wheels and being considerate and aware of your surroundings.
It's not all black and white - not all on a bike on the pavement are the frog like mobile phone wielding teenagers who don't give a damn - it's someone who wants to go somewhere.
I know that with proper training and awareness of the road etc is the way to be - it's much faster for a start, but you can't force it on people who just aren't ready - training and experience take time to build up.
Abusing them with 'witty' comments is the same as a car driver giving you abuse from his window, it's people like that that need to grow up, not the pavement cyclist IMO.
