Curved. If someone can't butter a traditional croissant then they are unsafe to be let loose with a knife in the first place.

I mean, whatever next from Tesco- cars without indicators to attract BMW drivers, or regular Coke in diet Coke packaging to appease Lard-O' s? You'd think a company that's been struggling lately and which is facing a significant restructure would have better things to do than this.

There are sound ergonomic reasons for the curve in a croissant. Any Frenchman could tell you that and fifty million Frenchmen can't be wrong.

Of course they can, the fact that they are french means they're wrong, on every level.

Croissants have marmalade on - just to show the Frenchies how to do it.

Curved ones are aesthetically pleasing and we should not bow to this. I think the public wanting them straight is a con. The frigging bean counters want them straight as they are easier to package and you probably get more in the oven.

I am still boycotting hexagonal scones (unless there are no round ones).

:laugh: At last, confirmation of what I always thought! Why would anyone put more butter on something that's made of so much butter? And jam as well? You might as well put butter and jam on a slice of Victoria sponge.
It's yet another example of the English just not "getting" foreign food. I've noticed a surge in the number of local restaurants serving starters on brioche. Chicken liver pate, garlic mushrooms, prawns ....there's no limit to the nonsense. What the hell is wrong with a couple of shards of Melba toast or some brown bread and butter?

I recall sitting in a cheap French hotel and being fascinated by how the French ate theirs. One guy was dipping his in his soup bowl size cup of coffee. It was good coffee too.
Breakfast of champions is a bowl of au lait with yesterday's baguette buttered and dunked.

In which case I will change my reply to

The local pub is serving chicken liver pate on toasted brioche FFS. What the hell is wrong with people, all this foreign muck? Yorkshire pubs should serve proper food. I'll have the soup of the day. It's golden vegetable.

And a waste of money. I had three bowls of scotch broth last week and I was still sober afterwards. Ought to be done for trades descriptions.

When Mrs OB (a Frenchie) and I have eaten breakfast in English hotels, there were some horrified looks from other diners when she plunged her pastries into a large bowl of tea....
