Oh, I see! So HD is better than ordinary digital, but digital is actually (in those terms) worse than analogue anyway. So HD is as good as analogue...
When the time comes, I'll go colour, and pay up, but while I can get a cheap licence, I will. I think you can still get B/W tellies, but they tend to be the tiny portables, not like mine, a massive, um, dunno, 12-15" screen? But then, I'm limited for space in the flat, so any bigger will be a pain to find a place for.
Think of it in cakes. Analogue was like having 5 chocolate cakes and each person/ channel had a chocolate cake each. Digital decided by running things more efficiently that you didn't need a whole chocolate cake each so people shared. The problem came when the accountants came in and started dividing each cake so it fed a quite large family, so channels ended up with a piece of cake about half the size it would be to work well. Digital would work a lot better either if there were more cakes, fewer channels to feed or a few other things. HD is more like a luxury cake where you can taste the difference, but also the bits of cake are quite a bit larger.
