Does Cycling Cure All Ailments

Since returning to riding last May I have lost a stone and the doc has halved my hypertension medication and reduced my diabetes type 2 (Fat, Old Bloke diabetes as he calls it) medication.

I think cycling has made me healthier, I was hardly ever ill in 2013, apart from a virus back in May, but even then I was back at work within 2 days, despite being told to take a week off.
I've had a couple of colds threatening to appear in the last few months, but I seem to have fought them off within a few days with minimal symptoms. Everyone at work seems to have suffered a lot more with the last cold bug that has been going around.

Since I started cycling again, I am as fit as I was when I played very competitive hockey 15-20 years ago. I certainly do not have as many colds, and the back problems I sometimes suffer with, have so far not returned.

I have not had to start diabetes meds, and I was told some years ago that would be a foregone conclusion. In about 7-8 years, I'll be the 2nd longest lived male in my family. But my Father, also a cyclist, made it to 83, so I've got a long road to ride to beat that record.

I was hoping that this was going to turn into a silly thread of perceived miraculous recoveries. It's actually turned into a real feel-good thread.

Keep the comments coming - serious or silly, I don't mind.

Personally, I suffered from sex addiction. I'm now deeply in love with my bike, and over this problem.

I definitely recover more quickly from anything I do get. My poor sister has ME and she takes about three times as long to recover as anyone else. Makes me feel kinda guilty, but she can't cycle as too much exercise makes her worse. Just has to stick with the dog-walking.

Confession: I've just had a day and a half in bed with the throat/lassitude lurgy that others have had. But today I cycled my usual little commute (3 1/2 miles) and feel pretty good. Just as well, as I'm going skiing on Saturday!

My official position in my morris side is that of Foreman, to the uninitiated, that means I teach the dances. Prior to returning to cycling in spring last year I was barely able to dance a whole dance without becoming out of breath a hence unable to encourage (shout at) the other men. Now I dance most every dance in the two hour practice and encourage the other men at the top of my voice throughout. I think it's an improvement, they are not so sure.

Can't say I've ever been aware of suffering from the former, but my wife says what that I'm doing now (CC) is Bike Porn - that and whenever I get down and dirty and fettle with my rides. :becool:

Oh, I had a health check recently - a considerable improvement over my condition a couple of years ago. Now off to buy a few bottles of beer ...

I had to stop playing football due to arthritis and took up cycling instead. I found that a 25 mile cycle did far more for back or hip pain than any amount of painkillers. I've been almost symptom free for several years now due to some very expensive (to the NHS) immune suppressing drugs. Knowing how much the NHS were spending on me prompted me to buy an expensive n+1, on which I try to suppress my immune system by riding as far and often as I can.

I was trying to convince my company to start a C2W scheme. On the C2W site it has evidence that employees who cycle commute are less stressed, concentrate better, are more productive and take fewer sick days.
I also pointed out it would help with the overcrowding in the car park which is what I think swung it lol
