Bring back Jacob Marley. Voice recordings played at a low volume through a speaker placed near the floor. Possibly with a gunshot, again at a low volume.
If asked!! deny any knowledge and say did she hear it as well, it wasn't your imagiation after all.

All this stuff about meters and recordings and getting statements from neighbours and contacting the HA is well-meaning but as far as I can see, misguided. Why should Saluki have to go thru' the hassle? Saluki's fine. If her neighbour wants to start doing all that kind of stuff, that's her business. All Saluki has to do is live her life.

This ^^^^
Let Saluki's neighbour go through all the hassle. Which I bet she couldn't be arsed.
Saluki has no need to put herself out for the old witch.

Saluki, I had similar years ago, though our neighbours behaviour wasn't as extreme as yours.

We lived in a predominantly student occupied area, so I fear that our neighbour was ground down by previous experience and was taking the view that if she gave us an inch we'd take a mile.

If we played the radio or had the TV on at a volume that we could hear it she would come and complain that we were disturbing her children, no matter what the day or night. We lived in virtual silence.

I would suggest you carry on your life as normal, and let the onus be on your neighbour to take the situation further. It's notoriously difficult for LA's to tackle genuine antisocial behaviour, so proving it in the case of someone who isn't being antisocial will be very difficult to prove.

If your neighbours complaints become too much, just explain that as far as you're concerned it is she and not you who is being unreasonable and hopefully she'll start ignoring you (that's what happened to me recently when my current neighbour complained about my son playing in the garden, she's ignoring us now - hallelujah!).

One thought that occurs to me that hasn't been mentioned: it was her who decided to 'work nights', not you. Anyone who chooses to work nights has to accept that the world mostly works days, and it's neither fair nor realistic to expect the rest of the world to change to fit around their choice.

albeit very true that saluki shouldn't go through this, iv lived next to plenty that act like her neighbor, some just like to complain, and others want the block to themselves. her actions from my perspective are clearly aggressive, and intrusive to saluki's life.

the thing is, ignoring the problem dosnt work, you will always be conscious in the back of your mind, and the neighbor will, in one way or another ,still be complaining.

problems ignored tend to get bigger, it may escalate, and you need to take steps to protect yourself , and for piece of mind, and to shut your neighbor up.

it seems unfair but, that letter from the council, in effect is a permission slip to live your life.

that way you can stop second-guessing yourself, ignoring it will just eat into you eventually, and make life unpleasant

When on tour I always have good ear plugs with me. Those campsites near the coast often have disco music going late into the morning. A good pair will allow me to sleep through that sort of thing.

I have to stick up for the night workers here (having been one all my working life until recently).

As a society that couldn't possibly function without night workers, I think those that do work night shifts should have some reasonable expectation of being able to sleep during the day. Imagine if you were seriously ill in hospital and the staff looking after you were insane with tiredness because they hadn't been able to sleep.

I was always very grateful to my lovely neighbour who would always check to see if my bedroom curtains were open before mowing his lawn etc.

Ear plugs are often a good temporary solution to noise problems, but they aren't recommended for long term use, they can cause damage to the ears.

Having said all this, it doesn't really sound to me as if @Saluki is making the kind of noise that disturbs night workers. Sure you may get disturbed by a door closing etc, but you generally just drop back off. It's repetitive continuous noise that disturbs sleep properly.

In the early 1960's when i was a few years old i was fed broken glass on a sandwich by a lunatic neighbour. She was a retired schoolteacher who hated children! She/we lived in a "posh area",my dad was a coachbuilder so it scrimped my mum and dad to buy a house there. You'd think that living amongst "better folk" would mean an more idyllic life, but it's not always the case.
The woman was constantly complaining and harassing us so we moved house, back to a more working class type of area. I'd like to say that we had a peaceful life from then on but unfortunately not. The new neighbour's daughter launched a half brick through our front window one night missing me,but covering me in glass. She was said to have been suffering mental health problems, but she was sent to a borstal anyway. To this day i check a sandwich out before i eat it,and i never sit directly under a window.

But at least Saluki will have covered her back should things get worse.

I do hope the Police and mental health people were informed!
