Although not important to me personally, some Contour Roam owners have been very upset the Roam does not have a 720p 60fps setting, unlike all the other Contour cameras.

Oh........

Right

So BSRU, if you were buying today, knowing what you know, what would you plump for ?

Definitely the Roam.

I have a Contour Plus, mainly because the Roam was released after I bought the Plus:headshake: , although the Plus is a better camera overall, but not worth almost £300 more than the Roam.

The main competitor to the Roam is the GoPro Hero HD2, an excellent camera.
It's disadvantages:-
1) it's not a great shape especially when attached to a helmet,
2) you have to use the waterproof case even for very light rain/mist, the waterproof case has a steaming up/fogging problem,
3) unable to rotate the lens to ensure it is horizontal,
4) the Contour produces a better video image, except in low light conditions.
5) It's more expensive, the Roam being better value for money.
It's Advantages:-
1) 170 degree field of view even in 1080p mode,
2) WVGA at 120fps, great for slow motion,
3) Can change all settings without needing to connect to a pc.
4) Excellent low light performance, far superior to any Contour.

Thanks - great post

I had a Hero Go-Pro

Great cam but horrid for head/helmet mounting - pretty much put me off them for life !

EDIT

Just ordered one now with a head/helmet mount
With the helmet mount, you will need to use blu tack or something similar to prevent the small metal bar coming loose, it holds the part that connects to the camera with the part attached to the helmet.
Also, the straps on my mount kept working loose, so I ditch them and use four thick cable ties instead.
For added security I use two lanyards attached to the camera and my helmet, just in case.

That really surprised me when I saw it. great pull out from GoPro and it's a shame that it came out shortly after the ROAM. as it's low light performance is the best in the contour range.

Good choice.

Top Tip, use 960p mode, you get the 170 degree lens angle and a taller image, much better for getting all the information you need

It's arrived, wow, QUALITY bit of kit

One question though, volume level , what do I need to set it to ?

Thanks

Aye, it's not as loud as the other contours, that is due to the waterproofing around the mic.

There is a firmware update which fixed something with the sound. Install that and keep it at max, it should be fine.
If not you can always increase the sound when editing.

What would you suggest for that ?

Thanks for the help btw
