Been there, experienced that . What's it like for you tall people being so far from the ground?

It's only a 23.5" frame really. I'm 5'10" and, although 23" is my ideal size, 23.5" is ok too. I have my cleats quite far forward compared to some people, and my saddle height is 30.5" from BB to saddle top.

This is the same size frame and it doesn't look wrong with the seat set for me.

Years ago, I bought an ASC with a cracked shell, re-shelled it, and made a trigger by modifying a 4-speed one. The ratios are quite nice, and it's better-made than the recent S3X, which is not good at all, but it still has a certain amount of backlash (it's less sloppy than the S3X) and the cable tension in low gear is extreme, so you never quite trust it on a hill. I'm glad I did it but I didn't keep it for long. One big advantage of a traditional fixed gear is that it's 100% reliable - nothing can slip, no matter how hard you jump on it.

@rogerzilla - technically need one of those to put the 1948 Claud Butler I picked up on Monday back to originality. However, I can't justify paying almost £200 more for the rear wheel and shifter than I did for the entire bike as is.

I have one in the cave but no trigger I think it's on a 27" rim

I need a 26 x 1¼ if I'm to change it back to original Sturmey-Archer, however I probably won't. I may however swap the crankset back to an older one.

Whatever I do it'll need new tyres as they currently have some very large cracks all over so aren't safe to ride on. Also, I've a feeling the cable outers haven't been changed in decades, so that's another job.

Got a couple of old Williams cranks but they have a fair bit of patina

1950 ASC 3 speed laced to a 40 hole weinmann alloy 27" rim never used so unsure but was fitted to a bike I bought years ago
