Still looking promising. Got text saying to expect engineer at approximately 8:15pm.

That is just one of your mates having a laugh.

Switch the gas off at the control valve at the meter, drop a blunt object on the meter breaking the display then report a smell of gas from the meter. By law they have to call within one hour to attend to smell of gas and if meter is damaged will replace it.

No need to break anything
Just report the smell of gas and someone will be there in under 15 mins
However a good chance they will condemn everything and cut off the gas, it then takes weeks to sort out

As a side line if you ever need the locks changing on a property or lock yourself out, report a gas leak and they will arrive in 15 mins, drill out your lock, switch off the gas, replace your lock and leave the keys at the local post office.
It's a great service

One option, if you are taking over a tenanted property, or indeed are a tenant is to move your Gas and Leki to 'Spark'
It's a supplier used by landlords.
They are no cheaper than the rest, they are more of a broking service than an actual supplier, I assume they take a cut from the big supplier such as NPower and EDF etc

The advantage is they are totally geared up to deal with properties that change hands, switch meters, switch suppliers, etc.
So they dont seem to be phased by odd meter readings, units that dont match the central database, or money not owed by the current resident.
