Electric hoists. Can anybody give advice?

In my quest for World Domination , I need to hoist some stuff into my loft. The loft hatch is about 700mm square and I can insert a short length of scaffold pole to support the hoist some distance above the hatch. Something like this one above.^^^^^^^^



It only needs to hoist up nuclear warheads weighing less than 250kg using a two cable pull. Can anybody give me any advice about a good model? They cost from £60 upwards and I'm floundering with all the options. Use will be strictly intermittent. Any and all advice would be most welcome.

Unfortunately, World Domination is not quite yet at hand.......the cheaper the better.

Good point about the headroom. I would really like to be able to hoist a crate that is a metre tall through the hatch. Unfortunately, I can't measure the distance from the loft floor to the likely position of the scaffold pole without waking the security guards, but I can give you the data in a few hours' time.

I would be worried abou the joists and trusses taking the weight of the warhead. Other than that as long as the hoist is rated for over 250kg and the control cable is long enough to reach down through the hatch I would pick the cheapest I could find. I assume you have an easy way to power it (non-nuclear)?

I'd like to echo Milkfloat's concern about the loading on the roof- generally speaking rooves are designed to hold their own weight, plus a bit of uniformly distributed snow.

You say less than 250kg on a two cable pull- does this mean the actual load is heavier than 250kg? Either way, that's a lot to hang off what sounds like a point load on a domestic wooden roof.

Have you considered the Davy Crockett nuclear artillery round, which is much smaller and lighter?

Does it really need to be a powered winch?
There are many options of hand powered winch capable of lifting 250kg, more compact and without the added complication of having to cable in an electric feed.

Why don't you use a block and tackle?

Make sure you spread the load, lifting and storing, over a few rafters and/or joists.
