Crack is less expensive and gives better performance gains.

My crack has a tendency to get painful on overlong rides....

Thank you, I have been - it's more the gels I am looking to top up.

No worries - have you considered flapjacks / other baked goods?

Over the winter I was doing a tray (probably close to kilo) of really nice jobs with quality ingredients for about £7-8; working out at about 60-70p per c.500kcal slice..

Always fuel with natural healthy foods & quite a few that are yummy but not so healthy - the gels are for back up on longer roads if I go through all my other grub

I use the High 5 tub's powder in my drinks for rides over 3 hours. I used to carry a couple of gels for emergency, but I can't ever see using more than a handful in a year.

I have ordered some High 5 berry ones (20 pack)

The berry ones are my fave. For shorter rides I usually have a couple in my back pocket along with some Lidl or Aldi sour gummies, longer rides they get supplemented with flapjacks and/or cocktail sausages rolls, cos I can only eat so much sweet stuff!

Used to use High 5 but they are too expensive. At the end of the day they are just Jam in a snazzy tube.

No better than Jelly Babies in terms of effect, imo.

Is it not only about the potential benefit. But possibly more-so also the ease of digestion / absorption. Which is why a gel excels: pardon the pun…..
